 Course Description & Equipment List:

Innovative tactics and tried-and-true techniques are the hallmark of this course which is designed for individuals assigned the responsibility to teach police and SWAT personnel in immediate deployment/rapid intervention techniques. This is a train-the-trainer course. Topics to be covered include an historical overview of active shooter situations including school shootings, immediate deployment/rapid intervention tactics, barricade-hostage rescue concepts and instructional techniques. Simunitions weapons will be used in field training exercises.

STUDENT EQUIPMENT
  • Students should be assigned as department instructors and have either completed a basic instructor development course or have equivalent experience as an instructor.
  • Students will bring their duty patrol gear. Officers who are assigned to SWAT should bring patrol duty gear and SWAT gear.
  • Protective gear (helmet, neck, face, head, hands & groin) for training.
  • Bring 9mm Simunitions training weapon & 9mm marking ammo (about 50 rounds)
  • Weapons or Glock conversion kits will be provided if your agency does not have them.
  • 200 - 250 sims rounds (needed for 10 students)

 Instructor Bio:  Don Alwes


Don Alwes is a police officer, trainer and consultant with 28 years of law enforcement experience. He is a lead instructor for the National Tactical Officers Association in Active Shooter Response and School/Workplace Violence.  He is also a firearms instructor for the NRA’s Law Enforcement Division and an adjunct instructor for Kentucky's Department of Criminal Justice Training.



Assisting with instruction will be Shawn Mayo and Ken Tuss with Billings PD.  Both are certified instructors through ALLERT and are senior members of the Billings PD SWAT Team.
