Newsletter of the Mountain States Tactical Officers Association

Letter from the President

Dear MSTOA Members and Fellow Officers:

Hopefully this newsletter finds everyone safe.  As you know we are already planning the 2005 MSTOA Conference.  Since the location of the conference will remain at Fort Harrison, we are already working on scheduling instructors.

The 2004 conference was a huge success.  Every year the logistics improve.  Your board is working on training topics, instructors, and a new format to include a SWAT competition on the last day.  The dates for next year are May 2-6, 2005.  Now is the time to start budgeting for your team to attend.

Fort Harrison was an excellent host and we look forward to working closely with them in the upcoming months to work out some of the logistical and housing issues.  If you have any ideas or suggestions for 2005, please feel free to contact me with them.

We are also communicating with the South Dakota crew in reference to hosting the 2006 conference.  We look forward to attempting to move the conference to a different state each year.  If you have any questions about team membership, fees, training, etc, please email me at bgootkin@co.gallatin.mt.us.

We have plenty of X-Large blue and gray sweatshirts still available for purchase.  We are looking at ordering more shirts, hats, and patches so please contact us on suggestions for long or short sleeve, black, blue, or gray, etc.

Our next newsletter will be distributed after the first of the year.  We will have a lot more information on the 2005 conference at that time.  Finally, a quick congratulations to our Secretary Corey Livesay on being promoted to Lieutenant with the Helena Police Department.  Move out and draw fire!!

2004 MSTOA REVIEW

TRACT: Sub-machine gun
Instructor(s):Phil Singleton, Singleton Int..

“Singleton is a HUGE asset to MSTOA. I would bring him back every year if possible- The BOARD did a great job putting this together. I would suggest making 1-day courses and send everyone through them so you’ll get subgun, handgun, entry training all in one series of days. Excellent job guys.”

“Excellent (Qualified) and good natured instructor…Well deserving of his reputation… Course content valuable and challenging… would recommend to any team or instructor cadre.”

TRACT:   Incident Command

“What an honor to have had Ron McCarthy. Last of the good guys! What can you say about a gentleman with his experience and knowledge other than thank you for sharing all your knowledge. Thank You Ron.”

“The sniper class was excellent and informative. Undersheriff Dominick did a great job for a short notice. He was able to use the range at hand to make the class interesting. Butte Silver Bow.”
